Joe Szwaja Reports First Fundraising Numbers
$20,121 Total Raised-To-Date,
$17,091 Raised At Kick-Off
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday June 12th, 2007
Today, Joe Szwaja reported his first campaign financial totals to the
Public Disclosure Commission, and in doing so established himself as
a candidate with broad support and solid financial backing from a host
of grass roots donors. “I set a goal of raising over 20,000 dollars
by our first reporting period and we met that goal. We surpassed Jean
Godden's kick-off totals, and now it’s time to accelerate our campaign
to retire the go-along, gossip based politics of our incumbent.”
Joe Szwaja for Seattle City Council raised over $20,000 in less than
a month. The kick-off on June 4th, brought out nearly 250 people during
the evening, and almost 200 donors contributed during the course of the
evening. “The
tremendous support we received on June 4th is a reflection of my 14 years
of effective community advocacy on a number of issues crucial to the
people of Seattle.”
“We flew in under the radar and out-raised the incumbent at our
first event” said Szwaja, “Our broad base of support will
help us let folks know that there is a strong candidate who will stand
up to the mayor to insist on quality, basic services over fancy, expensive
projects that benefit the few.”
Mr. Szwaja continued, “I support Public Financing of Campaigns
to eliminate the influence of money. But I'm in this race to win back
a seat at the table for the average person. To do that we will garner
contributions from average people all over the city and refuse any corporate
PAC money. I have been successful
in garnering resources for a number of causes from my own public high
school, to low income housing, fairness for Seattle workers, to human
rights around the world. Now I will be asking people to invest in my
own campaign to improve essential services and governmental accountability
for the people of Seattle”.
The Joe Szwaja for Seattle City Council Campaign will be touring neighborhoods
this summer, with a series of small business kick-offs in different Seattle
neighborhoods. The first kick-off is tomorrow night at the Liberty Bar
on Capitol Hill, Wednesday June 13th, 8pm, 517 15th Ave East, Seattle,
WA 98102.
